Who We Are

CMP.LY is a venture-funded startup offering proprietary social media monitoring, measurement, insight and compliance solutions for Fortune 100 financial services, automotive and consumer packaged goods companies, as well as leading advertising, social and PR agencies.

Here at CMP.LY, we believe that every one should be able to take control of their social media. That’s why we’ve spent our time creating solutions that help you better understand what is really happening with your social communications, optimize initiatives based upon actionable marketing intelligence and develop structured processes and best practices.

We’ve focused our efforts on:

  • Branded Channel Insights – providing a deeper understanding of engagement on owned media channels
  • Advocate/Influencer Initiatives – enabling activation, management and measurement at scale
  • Multi-Platform Disclosure Solutions – comprehensive and documented tools to provide disclosures, disclaimers and legal language across all platforms

But to understand why we do what we do, you should know how we got here.

How We Got Here

Our CEO Tom Chernaik founded CMP.LY in late 2009. A veteran entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience across social media, marketing and law, Tom was (and still is) passionate for the intersection of legal compliance and social media and created a simple solution for a very present need: a system of documented disclosures for bloggers and other social users to comply with the FTC’s guidelines for testimonials and endorsements in social media.

The original CMP.LY URLs consisted of custom disclosures for specific industries and regulatory needs (like CMP.LY/F for financial institutions), along with standard disclosures for individuals such as CMP.LY/3 to designate a paid post.

While CMP.LY URLs can still be found in the wild, we discontinued them at the end of 2013 in favor of our plain language disclosures, to encourage greater transparency and align with the FTC’s .Com Disclosures report (published in early 2013).

We have since patented our core technology. It has formed the way that we look at the world and is the foundation of the products that we build – including a solution for monitoring advocates for compliance and the measurement of social performance across owned and earned channels.
